Trees Were Harmed in the Making: My First Unit

Wow. Best way to describe creating a unit.

Our 103 page unit (in blue), copy for professor, copies for classmates, and my copy.

Man, was this bad-boy a lot of hard work, but I enjoyed every minute of it! I had so much fun creating the activities and the worksheets, I was getting so into it. I would discuss this unit with people as if I was doing it in real life..." and then I'm going to take my kids on a field trip! We are going to use a microscope to look at Lake Michigan water."...Elyse, this is all pretend! (I had to keep reminding myself.)

I am so pleased with the way our unit turned out.  Months ago, I thought of the idea of doing the Great Lakes.  I felt that it plays a major role in our region and it something to be discussed in the classroom.  I decided to become "captain" of our unit.  I love thrive off of stress and becoming organized. A few weeks ago, I questioned my decision, what have I gotten myself into!?

We split the days of the week up, the best we could.  I took on the schedule, Monday, Wednesday, and two lessons on Friday.  Kristi took Thursday and two activities on Friday. Chris had Tuesday and one activity on Friday and was in charge of the book list and resources.  I fell in love with developing activities! After a few hours working on my unit, ideas kept flowing "then we could do this, and this, and THIS!". Before I knew it, I was taking way too much time on this thing.

Rumor is that our professors will not read our units, I am hoping these students are wrong! I have worked so hard on this thing, and I know other have too.  We put a lot of time and effort into these, so I hope our professors take the time to read them and provide us with feedback. So if you professors are reading this... PLEASE LOOK AT OUR UNIT CLOSELY! It means a lot to me! :)
